We are looking to add a new member to our interdisciplinary team. If you have completed a master’s degree in computer sciences, informatics or similar and are interested in working on new and existing topics in order to bridge the gap between construction and robotics, or if you want to create novel software solutions for computer aided design, simulation and data management within the field of construction this might be for you.
You can find the complete job description on the RWTH Jobs page (also availabe in German) and as PDF here. We look forward to hearing from you!
The Chair of Individualized Production conducted a workshop at the CAADRIA 2018 conference in Beijing, China. Hosted by Tshingua University, this workshop explored methods for robot assisted assembly of plasma cut steel structures. The event brought together an international team of professionals and students, from architects, to engineers, and fabricators. Parametric design was combined with digital fabrication, and robotic processes to create a forest of branching steel structures. A Kuka robot was used to mass customize the cutting and assembly of individualized components. Robots were moving metal, sparks were flying, and students learned to weld steel together to create some amazing results! The conference culminated in an exhibition and presentation by team members Rushi Dai, and Ethan Kerber as well as presentations by Prof. Dr. techn. Sigrid Brell-Cokcan who gave a keynote lecture and hosted paper sessions on robotic Fabrication and Automation.
Having initiated a new topic group for Construction Robotics in 2015, Prof. Sigrid Brell-Cokcan was elected yesterday by the general assembly to join the board of directors of euRobotics. Here she will serve the European robotics community for the next two years.
euRobotics AISBL (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif) is a Brussels based international non-profit association for all stakeholders in European robotics. One of the association’s main missions is to collaborate with the European Commission (EC) to develop and implement a strategy and a roadmap for research, technological development and innovation in robotics.
Tother with our colleagues from the Institute of Mechanism Theory, Machine Dynamics and Robotics we are organizing the Construction Robotics topic group workshop at this years European Robotics Forum in Tampere.
Panelists from various backgrounds ranging from industry, end-users and research will discuss the hotspots within the construction sector that are most relevant for potential robotic solutions, in order to identify the main challenges (technological, societal, legal) and required developments/consolidations/adaptation/specialisation/combination of relevant technologies for this new domain. The panel discussion will merge into an open round table with the audience.
Date and Venue: 14.03.2018 08:30-10:00, Tampere Hall (to be confirmed)
Participants are asked to prepare points on where they see 1) the need, 2) the obstacles, 3) the potential technological/legal/policy issues, and 4) short and medium term solutions for construction robotics
